Stepping into 2024, Air Selangor’s various investment initiatives can be further intensified following the new water tariff adjustment, which came into effect on 1 February 2024. Air Selangor is committed to operating responsibly to build water supply resiliency and sustainability, as well as to improve the quality of our services for the well-being of consumers in the future. The water tariff adjustment will benefit consumers through the following initiatives:

  • Pipe replacement programme: The pipe replacement programme will increase from 150km per year to 300km per year starting 2024, and subsequently to 400km per year starting 2034. This will allow the replacement of 5,000km of aging pipes within a 15-year period (by 2040).
  • Water reserve margin: To increase the water reserve margin to 20% by 2030 by constructing new water treatment plants (WTP):
  • Rasau WTP Stage 1: Completed by 2025
  • Pulau Ketam Desalination WTP: Completed by 2026
  • Rasau WTP Stage 2: Completed by 2028
  • Labohan Dagang WTP Phase 2: Completed by 2029
  • Non-revenue water (NRW): To reduce non-revenue water (NRW) rate consistently to 27.5% by 2025 and 25% by 2030 with the addition of 100 District Metering Zones (DMZ) annually to achieve 80% coverage by 2028, introducing 20 Pressure Management Zones (PMZ) annually, installation of high-tech devices such as Pressure Transient Stations and Permanent Leak Noise Correlating Loggers and increasing the number of Leak Inspectors from 187 to 261 by 2024.
  • Asset upgrading works: To increase restoration efforts, enhance and upgrade Air Selangor’s assets such as building reservoirs, pump houses, as well as installing new pipes in areas that are experiencing low water pressure.
  • Water quality: Maintaining water quality level at 99% in accordance with the standards set by the Ministry of Health (MoH) through increasing water reservoirs and pipe cleaning works to 321 and 11,833km respectively and the installation of online analyser to monitor water quality from 190 to 300 units over the next three years.
  • Improving customer experience: Making it easier for consumers to communicate with Air Selangor through the upgrading efforts of the Air Selangor app and consumer complaint portal to super app and super web.
  • Community: 285,673 recipients of the Skim Air Darul Ehsan (SADE) will continue to receive the first 20 cubic meters of water for free. Meanwhile under Sesama Mara, Air Selangor will continue to support the B40 group through the distribution of essential food supplies via the Box of Hope initiative; to provide sustainable online education for B40 students continuously; as well as to increase volunteer efforts among Air Selangor employees.

With all these initiatives in the pipeline, Air Selangor will continue to drive the progress that has been built and remain committed to our efforts by applying the highest standards of excellence in every aspect – from extracting water to the distribution of clean and safe treated water to homes and businesses.
