Air Selangor Celebrates Merdeka Month with Children’s Welfare Homes Through Sesama Mara Initiative

Kuala Lumpur – In conjunction with Merdeka Day celebration this month, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) continues its efforts to share joy through its corporate social responsibility initiative, Sesama Mara by extending assistance to residents of welfare homes.

Through this initiative, Air Selangor has contributed essential items such as food and other basic necessities to three (3) children’s welfare homes, namely Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam, Kuala Lumpur; House of Joy, Puchong; and Rumah Kasih Harmoni, Sungai Buloh.

In addition to providing assistance and visiting the welfare homes, the Hydro Heroes volunteer team consisting of eight (8) Air Selangor employees and eight (8) volunteers from SAPOT, a social support platform, also conducted a Self-Care Safari workshop at Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam for the very first time. This workshop, themed around mental health, aims to raise awareness on mental health among children and teenagers.

Elina Baseri, Head of Corporate Communications of Air Selangor said, “In conjunction with this Merdeka Day month, Air Selangor remains committed to contributing to the well-being of the community. This first ever collaboration with SAPOT is part of our initiative to provide a safe and stigma-free space for the community to discuss mental health issues more openly. This aligns with the spirit of independence, which emphasises the development of a healthy and prosperous society.”

Additionally, Air Selangor also took the time with the children, celebrating birthdays and singing patriotic songs to further enliven the National Day celebrations this month.

Under the Sesama Mara initiative, Air Selangor distributed Box of Hope, consisting of essentials food items, to the B40 families in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. Since the programme was introduced on 30 June 2020 to date, a total of 5,835 Box of Hope boxes have been distributed to the targeted needy families.

The public can contribute to the Box of Hope in the form of physical purchases at five (5) Box of Hope locations within Village Grocer outlets. These locations are Tamarind Square Cyberjaya, MyTOWN Shopping Centre Cheras, 1 Mont Kiara, Central i-City Shah Alam and Melawati Mall Ampang. In addition, Air Selangor has also introduced the digital version of the Box of Hope initiative, allowing the public to make digital contributions through www.airselangor.com/boxofhope/.

Sesama Mara is a grassroot initiative aimed at assisting the surrounding community while strengthening Air Selangor’s relationships with various segments of society, such as the local community, residents’ associations, local authorities, and non-governmental organisations
