Kuala Lumpur – Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has launched the Hydrolytics MetLab as a metrology innovation centre that upholds the science of measurement to ensure Air Selangor’s water meters are impeccable in terms of accuracy and reliability, in line with the water services provider’s mission to provide the best customer experience to 9.1 million consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
According to Ir. Abas Abdullah, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Air Selangor during the launching ceremony of the innovation centre in Sungai Besi, Hydrolytics MetLab is where Meter Laboratory meets Data Analytics. It is the only water meter testing laboratory in Malaysia that is accredited by the Department of Standards Malaysia for its capacity to test water meters sized up to 200mm, compared to the national laboratory’s capacity to test water meters sized up to 80mm.
“The launching of this facility (Hydrolytics MetLab) is Air Selangor’s strategy to record accurate water usage and reduce the degradation of water usage records at all times for our growing consumers. It can also assist Air Selangor in our efforts to reduce the rate of Non-Revenue Water (NRW), as well as enable us to make informed and timely decisions to increase efficiency and optimise costs,” said Ir. Abas.
Hydrolytics MetLab is also a pioneer in Malaysia in providing testing facilities for all types and sizes of water meters following the standardised regulation of International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML).
“By combining analytical data and water meter profiling data, Air Selangor is no longer solely reliant on the ‘wear and tear’ of any meter, as well as any best practice that has been carried out before as a basis for changing water meters,” added Ir. Abas.
He further stated that this recognition is an achievement that Air Selangor is proud of and is aligned with its aspirations to become a leading water services provider in Asia by 2030.
