AIR SELANGOR LAUNCHES WATER HANDBOOK TO NURTURE SUSTAINABLE WATER CONSUMPTION

7 AUGUST 2021

Kuala Lumpur – Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) launches the Water Handbook – Sustainable Consumption and Conservation for Individuals and Organisations, a publication to encourage sustainable water consumption amongst Malaysians. The Water Handbook is the outcome of the collaboration between experts at Air Selangor and academicians from Universiti Malaya.

Air Selangor’s Chief Executive Officer, Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said the publication of the Water Handbook focuses on three main pillars, namely Sustain, Conserve and Restore to emphasise on the efforts to be adopted by the consumers in consuming water sustainably.

“The publication of the Water Handbook – Sustainable Consumption and Conservation for Individuals and Organisations is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding between Air Selangor and Universiti Malaya which was signed back on 2 April 2021. The content of this book is in line with Air Selangor’s sustainability aspirations in supporting SDG6 – Clean Water and Sanitation Goal and SDG13 – Climate Action Goal.

We hope the public will make the most of this book towards achieving the water consumption of 180 litres per day for each individual as targeted by the government,” he explained.

Universiti Malaya’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor said the strategic project collaboration between Air Selangor and Universiti Malaya is a continuation of the water conservation and preservation initiatives that were mobilised collectively through the publication of the Water Handbook.

“It involves the contribution of three experts from Universiti Malaya [Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences (IOES), Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Science] which is also supported by Universiti Malaya’s Community and Sustainability Centre (UMCares).

The themes chosen in the publication of this Water Handbook – Sustain, Conserve, and Restore are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals. This collaboration opportunity with Air Selangor has also enabled Universiti Malaya to continuously share its expertise for mutual benefit in our efforts to serve the country and make an impact in the world,” he said.

To strengthen sustainable water consumption efforts, Air Selangor has also launched the HydroSquad featuring Malaysia’s very own celebrities and personalities, Nabil Ahmad, Aishah Sinclair and Arwind Kumar. Together, they will motivate and encourage the conservation and preservation efforts of the water resources to all Malaysians through this Water Handbook.

The HydroSquad will be conducting monthly Master Class series, by shedding the light on prudent water consumption, practical knowledge and checklists as well as exciting projects that can be exercised with the whole family. Each of the  Master Class sessions will offer special prizes of up to RM10,000.

Consumers can download the Water Handbook at www.airselangor.com/waterhandbook to learn more about the importance of conservation and preservation efforts of raw water resources as well as the treated water supply which is highly valuable to all.
