Kuala Lumpur – Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) welcomes the statement by the Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, regarding Malaysia’s readiness to align national policies to meet the demands of emerging industries, including the rapid growth of data centres.
As Malaysia’s largest water service provider, Air Selangor remains committed to ensuring a stable and sustainable water supply to our 9.62 million users while addressing the increasing needs of this growing industrial sector.
To ensure the capacity to meet the additional demand from data centres, Air Selangor has outlined several strategic measures, including:
- Increasing the water reserve margin: Plans are in place to raise the water reserve margin through the development of four (4) new water treatment plants by 2030, providing an additional capacity of 2,730 million litres per day. As of September 2024, the water reserve margin stands at 18.37%, up from 15.34% in 2023.
- Sustainable water management: Continuous efforts are underway to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) to 25% by 2030, which will enhance the efficiency of our water supply system.
Air Selangor recognises the critical role data centres play in driving Malaysia’s economic growth and innovation. We remain committed to collaborating with stakeholders, offering expert consultation, and providing innovative solutions to support their operations without compromising the needs of other sectors.
Aligned with Malaysia’s aspirations to become the preferred hub for data centres in the region, Air Selangor is dedicated to playing a pivotal role in supporting this goal. Our progressive policies and strategic planning lay a strong foundation for the future of the data centre industry in the country.
